Along the way, our gym received bids for 7 of our teams to compete-and an astonishing 55 invitations for the Rockstar Gym brand as a whole.”Īs bid event competitions took place all across the country over various weekends this season, cheerleaders gathered to watch Varsity TV on Monday evenings to find out if their weekend’s performance qualified them to join their elite peers in Orlando. To give a comparison, being invited to this competition is like going to the Super Bowl. “We worked so hard all season long to meet all the stringent bid requirements to have an opportunity to compete against the top gyms in the country at The Summit. “That’s what makes The Summit so rewarding for our young gym,” says owner Carolyn Garrison. “Teams competing at The Summit must receive a bid at a prior competition to be eligible to participate,” says Brian Elza, Co-General Manager and Vice President of Sales for Varsity All Star, which is comprised of multiple all star competition brands under the Varsity Spirit umbrella. Officially opened in January, this is the first facility in the world built specifically for cheer and dance competitions.
The 2018 Summit will showcase more than 3,000 teams from across the United States and will include performances in the new Arena at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Summit, held at Walt Disney World® Resort’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex May 3-6, is the season-capping goal for many competitive all star teams.
